Watergate Fisheries, Thurlaston

My husband and I found this site very difficult to find via Sat Nav, after circling for half an hour we managed to find a road on the map in the Leicestershire D.A’s site book. On the site books instructions we found the site very easy. (SAT NAV’s – WHO NEEDS THEM)

We were about the fourth caravan to arrive and were greeted by the Stewards Steve & Dawn. Dawn instantly put the kettle on (what a godsend).

The site itself was very basic, yet peaceful. The lakes must have been overflowing with fish, as I have never seen so many fish caught in one day. It seems very popular to fish here. The weather was not being very kind to us as we arrived, and because the entrance to the field was the only one, it became very boggy towards the end of the weekend. There are no facilities, except for a toilet in a shed, water tap and elsan point. We had to laugh as the bolt on the shed door was on the outside.

It was a quiet weekend, but the few units that did come all got together in the evenings in Steve & Dawns awning and enjoyed a few drinks and a chat, also a game of bingo thrown in.

This site would be lovely to visit in the summer and would come again.

All in all, the weekend was very enjoyable, with a friendly bunch of people. It was just a shame a few more members didn’t come.
